Russian Flag Day
Russia Celebrates National Flag Day
The Russian National flag of white, blue and red is more than 300 years old, dating back to the turn of the 17th century.
The flag as we know it today first appeard at the turn of the 17th century, just as Russia was establishing itself as a powerful empire.
Back in the 17th and 18th centuries it was said that red stood for a powerful state, blue for the Virgin Mary and the holy protectress of Russia, and white was the color of freedom and independence.
Today the color scheme is the same but the interpretation is a bit different. White stands for peace, blue for faith and fidelity, while red represents force and blood shed forthe motherland.
Today Russians all across the world celebrate the history of their national flag!
